Getting your team involved in your CSR strategy is a great way to help them feel invested in the company and rally around a cause they care about. Employees are often the first to show interest in social and environmental initiatives at work.

According to a Korn Ferry study, 3/4 of employees surveyed say they feel disappointed when their company doesn't provide more opportunities to get involved in CSR.

But how do you build a structured, relevant, and engaging strategy for your team?
Here are 6 steps to get your employees involved in your CSR journey ⬇️

‍

💡 Inform your team about your CSR initiative

Take it one step at a time. The first thing to do is let your team know that a CSR strategy is being implemented or is already in place. Employees aren't always aware of the actions being taken, especially when they involve less visible efforts like choosing a local supplier or energy-efficient office upgrades.

‍

🗣 Call to action and spark interest in CSR

Next, you need to spark their interest. We recommend organizing a meeting or an internal email campaign to invite everyone to share their ideas and the topics they’d like the company to focus on. Giving employees a voice helps them feel included in the CSR process. They’ll be much more likely to participate in initiatives if they’ve helped choose the topics they care about.

‍

🤗 Propose CSR initiatives

Suggest ideas for actions your team could lead. For example, change up your annual Secret Santa or team-building week. Share ideas for eco-friendly gifts for the holidays, or organize a "CleanWalk" for your next team-building activity.

Bring your team together for a shared charitable initiative: a clothing drive for a local charity? A donation drive? A giant office swap meet on a Friday afternoon? It’s a chance for everyone to take action, get involved, and participate.

You’re the one driving the strategy, so lead by example and give everyone a chance to get involved. You provide the idea, and they can help implement it, spread the word, and organize the project.

‍

📲 Communicate about the company's CSR strategy

It is essential to communicate about all the CSR actions being taken within the company.

Remember to communicate before, during, and after the initiative!

If an action was led by employees, don't hesitate to highlight their efforts! Congratulate and support them; it will inspire other employees to get involved in CSR. Unite your team around the company's CSR strategy.

Use social media and internal channels to show all your stakeholders that your company is committed to a genuine CSR approach (without falling into greenwashing).

Idea: Create a photo wall to serve as a memory of the CSR actions carried out with your colleagues! It can be a great source of motivation for future projects!

‍

♻️ Educate on CSR

‍You won't be able to run initiatives every day, but you can educate your team on CSR. CSR concepts can sometimes feel a bit abstract. Consider sharing infographics or short videos via an internal newsletter. You could even put up small posters in the break room.

Tip: Keep it visual and don't overwhelm your colleagues with too much information. Start with the basics and provide extra details as needed. Avoid being preachy—keep it educational.

Getting your team involved in your CSR strategy allows them to diversify their daily tasks, break the routine, and connect over causes they’ve chosen and care about. Employees motivated by social and environmental actions are more loyal to their company and generally happier at work.
